Artist statement

Soft Serve is a refreshing 60-second looping animation that strives to take the viewer on a quick escape to a meditative, calming and perhaps nostalgic moment. Cyclic in movement, hue and sound, take as much time as required to perhaps defragment, wash and re-compile the senses. Set to a dream like rhythmic tone, the piece allows for repetitive deep breaths and the opportunity to drift away and reset. Just for a moment, remember your childhood, what it was like to play, stretch into memory, inhale deeply, exhale deeply and move on.

pixelshifter (Scott Ritchie) believes strongly in the ability for art and technology to help provide moments like these to help us all cope with the disarray of the modern world. These small cyclic animated systems mimic our own monotonous selves and might just provide a gentle reminder to breathe, relax and carry on.
